Traveling with a baby can be a tedious task in itself. Most parents avoid traveling with young infants because not only can it be a difficult task but it is also unsafe for the baby. Usually, doctors recommend avoiding any kind of travel, especially air travel with young infants since their immune systems are not fully developed yet.
However, there are occasions when you do need to travel with a baby and there is no way in which you can avoid it. For example, in case of an emergency and with no one to look after the baby, you have no other option but to take them along with you.
In such a case, we have created a list of things that you should pack when going out with your baby to make it an enjoyable experience for both of you.
What to pack when going out with your baby?
Let us divide the list of things into two parts. Firstly, we talk about the essential items that you will need no matter what. And, next, we explore the things that you may or may not choose to carry with you. They can make your trip easier, however, if you don’t have the budget or time to purchase those things, it is still okay.
Here are some essential items that you will need to carry when going out with your baby:
- Carry a diaper bag with enough diapers to last you for the entire duration of the trip. Also pack rash cream, wipes, a pacifier (if your baby uses one), and any other things that you may need.
- If you are breastfeeding your baby, then carry a coverall that will allow you to breastfeed the baby anytime, anywhere. If you are feeding formula, then carry enough formula to last the entire trip. Also, carry a bottle to mix the formula in without much hassle.
- Carry at least 3 fresh napkins. With small babies, you can never have enough fresh and clean napkins. Also, don’t forget to carry a small sanitizer bottle so that you can clean your hands before you touch any of the baby’s stuff.
- Depending on the number of days you plan to be out of the house, carry enough change of clothes for your baby. Also, ensure that the clothes you carry are soft and comfortable so that the baby is always relaxed in them.
- If your baby is used to snuggling in a blanket or there is some toy they can never leave, don’t forget to pack those as well.
- If you can, it is a good idea to pack their stroller as well. Or a baby carrier, in the least. You can also consider packing (and, using) a baby sling to make things easier for you on the trip.
So, these were some of the things that you need when traveling with your baby. Now, if you have enough space to pack a few other things, then you can consider these as well to make your trip more fun for everyone:
- Inflatable bathtub
- A foldable mosquito net
- A foldable baby bed/crib
- Teething toys
- A book to read to the baby
- Baby monitor
- Disposable bags
- A foldable changing station
- Small first aid box for you as well
